What is Asphalt Milling?
Milling is the controlled removal of at least part of the surface of a paved area such as a road or parking lot. There are several ways to approach the milling process. Milling can simply remove a thin pavement layer, or a full-depth removal can occur.
Sometimes, the best solution for damaged pavement is to start from scratch. To do this, the area must be repaved. Milling is generally used for surface raveling, releasing the surface course, weathering, leveling of depressions, and ponding or pooling water in unwanted areas.

- Cost—Most of the time, millings (gravel-sized pieces of pavement left over from this process) are considered recycled. Because no new materials are used to create this gravel, the cost is often much less than gravel coverage.

- No Maintenance—Unlike gravel surfaces, milled pavement does not require maintenance such as resurfacing. Milled asphalt actually hardens over time, becoming stronger than when it was first installed.
